how was the light set up? or is this a merge of multiple shots? i'm asking because the shadows don't match.

I've been working on some new lighting techniques lately to isolate areas with flash. The preponderance of light is coming from behind. Each 'face' of the cube had it's own flash with cones I've made for them. The flashes are set to 1/16th - 1/64th power depending on whats needed for the area it's covering. It's taken me about 2 years to really get a handle on it and I'm still not quite there yet.

7 Flashes used in this shot. 3 on the cube, 4 on the background.
