Remember that feeling of a love that has left? It is always a combination of great memories and brutal sadness. This is my take on it. Very painful.
Tech stuff: Canon 1D. 100mm Macro. 3 flashes, 2 (on the sides pointing in) heavily diffused, the other brutally stong from about 4 feet above and a foot behind the subject (6:00 sort of).
PS stuff: All the normal stuff. Had a red cast in some of the shadows (rose pedal induced) that I got out of there. Spots cleaned up.
Not sure I can say "I hope you enjoy this", I think "I hope you can feel this" works better...
Oh yeah, compression is tearing this image apart for some reason. Don't know why. Doesn't matter though. It's the thought that matters...
It seems an odd thing to say, but... this looks like it was rendered. It's the smoothness of the mask, it looks like 3d modeling to me, it's quite bizzare.
The rose petals under the eye holes work well, especially on the left of the picture, it looks like it has a gaze...
Oddly, I feel like this is kinda a positive image. The petals and the whiteness make me thing of wedding and love, and as I dislike those white face masks it feels like it's talking about such things destroying the masks we wear... it's a scary thing to loose them but seeing them apart from what we really are shows them for what they really are. I'm fairly sure that's not what you intended, but hey ^_^

LOL!!! Yeah, I don't thing you could be more 180 than my intent... but hey... that is excellent!!! That is what I love about art and exactly what I try to do... I want the viewer to feel. What they feel is up to them... ya know?
Thanks for your thoughts... People say all the time my stuff looks rendered. I think I have some interesting lighting techniques (what they are I have no clue) that generate this look. I have been hearing this for a while now. I think it's sort of cool and always take it as a compliment. Since my stuff is pretty conceptual, I think it looking rendered sort of helps it fit...
this is crazy dave.....I am sitting here looking at this and I have no idea why, but I swear my monitor just went into total 3-d mode. There is soooo much depth in this, it's scary. It is literally jumping out at me. Fantastic

Hehe. I'm thinking the intent is having the mask represent the person, they they're being shattered. It is still an unsettling image, but, those masks are scary. So it's sort of both things at one time. Getting free of your masks is a good thing, but it's still painful and frightening.
I wonder what it is that makes it look rendered... On this, I think it's the nose that made me think it. The grey underneath it looks like it's texture map, and everything is so smooth and flawless...

Thanks man... I have to say I am proud of this one... This is actually a product of DA. Being a bit older than the normal crowd here I read journals and look at the younger peoples art. A vast majority of them have to do with love, pain of a new relationship. As you get a bit older you forget about this stuff.
DA has reminded me of it... Cool feelings. I remembered the first time a girl reached out and held my hand (the rose) and then when she left (the mask). Lots of fun now, but not then... LOL
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
